The Memorial Chapel in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Is one of most beautiful and iconic structures on the historic Army Post. The chapel was constructed by prisoners from the post's Military Prison, in 1878. It opened on November 28, 1878. and is a stunning example of Gothic and Victorian Gothic design elements. The stones used to build the Chapel, were quarried on the post grounds.. Pictures of the Custer family and officers who were a part of early Fort Leavenworth history, grace the walls of the chapel. From behind the chapel, one can take in a picturesque view overlooking Missouri River. Open since 1878 the chapel has been in continuous use and still holds church services, weddings and memorial services. Art Print by Artist, Diana Perry.
