In 1845, John Patee, purchased land which was divided into lots and added to the town of St. Joseph, Mo. The area was known as Patee Town. In 1855, Patee gave the city a square block of land for use as a park and market place. The historic Patee House Market building was completed in1909 and the market became a colorful, hustling, bustling place, where vendors could bring their produce, such as hay, baked goods, chickens and many other goods to sell on Saturdays. It was an exciting time of folks coming together for young and old. Art Prints of this image, by Diana Perry, are available.
