The "Rookery" is the longest surviving building on the Fort (circa 1834) and the oldest continually occupied residence in the state of Kansas. It's said to have gotten it's name when it housed single military men in the early 1800's. It also housed Gen. Douglas MacArthur, then a Lieutenant and instructor at the Engineer School.
